Just like her customers, Christine Little stops for a quick coffee and a rest after a busy day in her new cafe venture Chrissy’s Cafe in Murtoa this week.

The cafe in Murtoa’s main street has just changed hands, as of last week, with new owner Christine Little looking to add a new lease of life to the popular cafe.

“We are really looking to add some character to the cafe, rather than just being a coffee shop or take away business. A place where people can come and enjoy a coffee, have a chat with good company and a quality meal. We plan to develop a unique outside dining and meeting area where groups can get together as well,” Mrs Little said.

Mrs Little and her husband David have five children, with their youngest Ryder keen to help out as well.

Chrissy’s Cafe is not a new experience for Christine as she worked at Boydy’s Cafe at Rupanyup for six years. The couple and their family have lived in the Wimmera most of their life near Coromby, with David working at Glendamar near Marnoo.

“When the cafe went onto the market, many people suggested we should take it on for the town…we had a chat, I knew former owner Chris quite well and he had, had enough and we were keen, so it all fell into place,” Mrs Little said.

Under the new ownership, Christine will continue with gourmet coffee, hot food, sandwiches and focaccia’s and even fresh sushi. “I’m well aware of some people’s health issues, particularly gluten intolerance and will aim to meet those needs as well. We have some new ideas such as ‘Wongs Chicken Rolls’ and some pasta and rice dishes to add to the range,” she said

“These are new ideas of ours, but would welcome any others ideas to add to the attraction of customers to the business. When the weather is good an outdoor cafe garden will be an attraction and we have this on our list of ‘to do’s’. Nice seating, umbrella’s and ‘character table settings” would make for a pleasant experience we think,” Mrs Little said.
