Election candidates outline vision, expertise for Hindmarsh Shire Council
Hindmarsh Shire Council contenders in the last stage of the race

Voters in West Wimmera Shire Council election have received their ballots and voting is in the last week of the 2024 election.
In September, The Wimmera Mail Times invited all candidates to provide a 300-word profile and respond to two questions.
This week, we wanted candidates to look beyond roads, rates and rubbish and outline their vision for the municipality.
Hopeful candidates across the municipality are hoping to be elected to the council for the next four years.
Here are their responses to question one in order of the VEC listing.
Question 1: What is your vision for the municipality?
Question 2: What expertise or attributes do you have that would help you undertake the role of Councillor?

Debra Nelson is a candidate on East Ward.
A 1 : I believe Hindmarsh Shire has a great opportunity to further capitalise on tourism and visitors to our towns through promotion of our wonderful unique natural assets. Continuing to build on upgrading infrastructure, beautification of our towns, together with supporting local businesses, events and volunteers of community groups will create vibrancy and improve the liveability of our towns and their appeal as a great place to live and a must visit tourism destination.
A 2 I have 12 years experience as a councillor, serving 2 years as Mayor.I have completed training for the role, hold an accounting qualification , and have worked in professional fields where integrity and confidentiality are required. I will listen to the community and advocate on their behalf.
