Antwerp claim tennis premiership
The Grand Final of the Dimboola and District Tennis Association for 2024/25 was played on Saturday, March 15. The top two sides in Antwerp and Warrack faced off to decide this year's premier team.

Due to the forecast weather for Warracknabeal on Saturday being 39 degrees, the competitive executives communicated with both teams early in the week to devise an alternate day or time to play the final.
We want to give a huge thank you to the captains of both teams for deciding on a 9 am start on Saturday, being the best option to get the game underway and
finished before the heat kicked in.
Once the team sheets were filled out, the players were ready for the contest to start.
In the mixed, Warrack’s number one pair took the first set nine games to one; however, Antwerp won the next four to give them the upper hand. Warrack won the last set nine games to seven to make it four sets, 44 games to two sets, 34 games in Antwerp’s favour.
In the men's, Warrack once again started well, only for the Antwerp teams to rally, taking control to claim a good win: four sets, 47 games to Warrack's two sets, 40 games.
The women were a different story to the mixed and the men, with some class games making it interesting to watch, with Warrack taking the points, winning three sets, 44 games to Antwerp's three sets, 40 games.
The overall score was Antwerp four match points, 11 sets, 131 games to Warrack one match point, seven sets, 118 games.
Three set winners for the day were Heather Jorgenson, Chris Avery and Don Clark from Antwerp.
Unlucky not to win three sets were Sarah Spicer, Lauren Kellett, Harry Allan and Mitch Greenwood from Warrack, all going down in their third set on the day in tie breakers.
Congratulations to the Antwerp Tennis Club on being the season 2024/25 Premiers.
Thank you to all the executives from each club for all you do, the players who have had a hit this year, the captains of each team, and especially all the junior players who have played this season. You are the association's future, and seeing so many coming through the ranks is great.
I hope everyone has enjoyed playing tennis and it would be great to see you all again next year.
Cheers from the Dimboola and District Tennis Association Executives.
