Antwerp continue perfect start to the season
Round two of the Dimboola and District Tennis Association was played under lights on Friday night, and it was another glorious evening for tennis.
The first game of the round saw Dimboola take on Antwerp at Dimboola, with the latter hoping to continue their good start this year with another win.
In the mixed, Antwerp was on top early, convincingly winning 5 sets, 49 games to 1 set, 34 games.
The men saw another good win for Antwerp, although Dimboola showed plenty of fight. Some good games were contested, and Antwerp won 5 sets, 49 games to 1 set, 39 games.
In the women's match, Antwerp took home the win, ensuring that they got the maximum points. They claimed the win in 5 sets, 52 games, to Dimboola's 1 set, 30 games.
The overall score was Antwerp 5 match points 15 sets, 150 games to Dimboola 0 points 3 sets,103 games. This was a very good win, continuing their good start to the season.
Jeparit travelled up the road to take on Rainbow, looking to get their first points for the season, and Rainbow wanted to build on their first-round win.
In the mixed, Rainbow prevailed, winning 4 sets, 46 games to Jeparit's 2 sets, 36 games. However, many of the games were relatively close.
The men were dominated by Rainbow, who claimed all but one of the sets, which went a long way to getting them the points on the night. The score was Rainbow 5 sets, 49 games to Jeparit 1 set, 35 games. Although the score doesn’t reflect it, there were some good tussles.
In the women, it was Jeparit’s turn to get the points, having a great win 4 sets, 51 games to Rainbow 2 sets, 37 games, earning them their first point for the season.
The overall score was Rainbow 4 match points, 11 sets 132 games to Jeparit 1 match point, 7 sets 122 games.
Arkona were the hosts to Warrack at Dimboola, and looking for their first win this year, they were off to a very shaky start in the mixed. Warrack was dominant, winning all the sets and only conceding a handful of games; the score was 4 sets,36 games to 0 sets and 9 games.
The Arkona men tried to rally the team, playing some good tennis, however they went down 3 sets, 29 games to 1 set, 24 games.
In the women's, it was Warrack who put the foot down again, playing some great tennis and having a big win, only allowing 4 games to the opposing team. Warrack 4 sets, 36 games to Arkona 1 set, 4 games.
The overall score was Warrack 5 match points, 11 sets,101 games to Arkona 0 match points, 1 set, 37 games.
In the last game of the round, Hopetoun travelled up the highway to tackle Brim under the lights.
This game was scheduled for Saturday but changed to Friday night. It was played with five men and five women.
The mixed was a close contest as was most of the night with Hopetoun coming out on top claiming the win with 3 sets, 29 games to Brims 2 sets, 29 games.
In the men's match, it was another close contest with some pretty good tennis played by both teams. Hopetoun prevailed in 3 sets, 33 games to 2 sets, 31 games.
It was the Hopetoun Women who helped them across the line, winning with 3 sets, 39 games to Brim's 2 sets, 31 games in a very good game by both teams, giving Hopetoun its first win for the season.
The overall score was Hopetoun 5 match points 9 sets, 101 games to Brim 0 match points, 6 sets 91 games.
