Bryon awarded league's best defender
Following his second premiership, Cody Bryan was crowned the CBL defensive player of the year for the third consecutive season, proving he is the league's most elite defender.
On Saturday night, he had the big job on Simon Berkefeld, who put up 37 points in last year's grand final against the Hornets.
Despite Berkefeld scoring 25 points, Bryan's defensive effort contributed largely to the win.
"I have taken the best player a bit more, which has helped my defence as I can cut off passes," Bryan said.
"I pride myself on defense. Several good offensive players are in the league, so I use all my defensive efforts to cut them off and let other teammates play in offence.
"Simon had a few free throws but I am happy I could shut him down and contribute to the win.
"I am thrilled and grateful to get the win over them. They defeated us the last two years, and it's good to get one over them and to have mates here as well watching on; celebrating with them makes it all the better."
