Horsham Lawn defeat Kalkee in thriller
Horsham Lawn kick-started their title defence in round two of the Pennant competition in the Central Wimmera Tennis Association with a thrilling eight-game win over Kalkee at Kalkee Tennis Club.
Horsham Lawn got off to a great start, winning three of the first four doubles sets.
Lachlan Punchard and Graeme Wood defeated Aiden Richardson and Jeff Friberg 8-5, Tahlia Thompson and Cherie Wood defeated Emily Polack and Anna Exell 8-3, and Gemma Walker and Ella Thompson defeated Keeley Schultz and Meaghan Pohlner 8-7 in a thriller.
Kalkee's doubles win came through Jordan Frigerg and Grant Schultz, defeating D'Artagnan Walls and Andrew Dorman 8-6.
Kalkee squared the match up 4-4 in the four singles sets, winning three. Jeff Friberg defeated Lachlan Punchard 8-3, Jordan Friberg def D'Artagnan Walls 8-4, and Meaghan Pohlner defeated Gemma Walker 8-3.
Tahlia Thompson won the set for Horsham Lawn, defeating Emily Polack 8-3.
Horsham Lawn won three of the following four doubles sets, giving them a seven-to-five lead with two doubles sets to go.
Graeme Wood and Andrew Dorman defeated Aiden Richardson and Grant Schultz 8-4, Ella Thompson and Cherie Wood defeated Keeley Schultz and Anna Excell 8-2, and sisters Tahlia and Ella Thompson defeated Emily Polack and Keeley Schultz 8-3.
Grant Schultz and Jeff Friberg delivered Kalkee their set, defeating Lachlan Punchard and Andrew Dorman in a thriller, 8-7.
With a two-set lead, it came down to the final two sets
Jordan Friberg and Aiden Richardson defeated D'Artagnan Walls and Graeme Wood 8-6, and Meaghan Pohlner and Anna Excell defeated Gemma Walker and Cherie Wood 8-6 to square the match 7-7.
Horsham Lawn won 91 games to 83, which declared them the winner.
In the other match, Central Park defeated Drung South 14-0.
In the singles sets, Matt Jones defeated Aaron Jennings 8-5, Harry Allan defeated Harrison Daniell 8-4, Willow Sainsbury defeated Yolly Molineaux 8-5, and Adele Joseph defeated Sandra Casey 8-0.
