Netballers shine at state titles
On Saturday March 9 to Monday March 11, The Wimmera Mallee Netball representative teams for both Wimmera Football Netball League and Horsham District Football Netball League competed at the State Titles in Bendigo
The representatives in the under 15s were Scarlett Abott, Ruby Gordon, Zarli Knight, Sienna Manserra, Lena Marshman, Jasmine McIntyre, Bridie Price, Olivia Taylor, Hailey Tippett, Emma Uebergang, Ilze Van Zyl and Abbey Wiedermann. The Coach was Anna Lake and Assistant Sonia Webb.
The representatives in the under 17s were Zali Angel, Nekeisha Bastin, Jaylen Benbow, Maddison Bethune, Scarlett Funcke, Abby Griffiths, Phoebe Henderson, Violet McGennisken, Tara McIntyre, Taya Quick, Cara Tippett and Mikaela Wright. The coach was Kylie Walsh with Sophie Thomas the Assistant Coach.
The under-15 team played 17 games and won six matches.
Against Elmer they won 9-7, Chisholm 8-6, Glenelg 17-4, Murray 12-7, Sunraysia 15-7 and Labrobe Valley 11-7.
The under-17 team played 17 games and secured four wins and drew one.
Against Murray, they won 11-9, North East, 8-6, Sunraysia, 17-6, Glenelg, 15-4 and drew 11-11 against Jika.
Tara McIntyre, who plays for Harrow Balmoral in the HDFNL, said it was a fun experience.
"We struggled a bit but it was a good learning experience for all the girls," McIntyre said.
"It was my last year doing it and it was a good experience and they are a great group of girls to play with.
"I am still trying out for seniors for Harrow Balmoral for this season so we will see how that goes."
The event sees a wealth of talent take to the court across the long weekend; several athletes, coaches and umpires have made their way through the Netball Victoria pathway in talent academies, State teams, and the Victorian Netball League.
The State Titles represent a great opportunity for athletes, coaches, umpires, and officials to hone their skills and gain valuable match experience.
