Personal stories from those who left

We spoke to Dimboola residents at the emergency relief centre in Horsham about their decision to leave, who alerted them, the help they received during evacuation, their preparedness, what they took with them, how they reached Horsham and the conditions they faced when leaving their town.

We were told about 6.55pm via text message that we needed to evacuate by 7.30pm so we left at 7.30, by the time we got all our things together and got ourselves organised. We've only been in Dimboola for few months so we didn't really know where we were going; we just drove to Warracknabeal, sat there for a little bit and found out on our phones about here. It was getting quite dark, very smoky, and you could see it moving in very quickly. Bev Herben
