Potter looking forward to development program
After being in the Future Development Program for the last two years, Rani Potter is entering her first year in the Basketball Victoria State Development Program. She said she is looking forward to improving her basketball.
"Once you get to the stage playing against other teams around the region, it's more intensity, and they expect more from you, and you play better," Potter said.
"You are improving on everything as you go."
Potter had an introductory camp in Ballarat on Sunday, October 12, and her mum, Jodi Bigmore, said that coaches have noticed improvements in her.
"Another coach said to Rani and me that they could see the improvement in her from the programs she has been involved in and the hard work she has done in those programs," Bigmore said.
"She is learning a lot and more about defensive work, not just offensive work.
"She is improving on the systems, playing against tougher competition, and being able to challenge herself has helped."
For the last two years, Potter has been travelling to Hamilton, and now going to Ballarat is a big change. Bigmore says it helps that Rani has made friends from the Albury Cup back in January.
"It's a bit of a change, and we have been told that as they become older, there will be more travelling to Ballarat and Melbourne," Bigmore said.
"The good thing is a lot of the girls from the Albury Cup that Rani played with earlier in the year are also there, so having a lot of friendships and connections is a good thing."
