Three teams remain unbeaten
Horsham Golf, Horsham City, and Coughlin Park remain unbeaten in division one of the Wimmera Area Lawn Bowls Pennant competition following tough wins over Goroke/Edenhope, Nhill, and Kaniva, respectively.
Horsham Golf won 74-69, winning two rinks to one, which was played at Goroke Bowling Club.
Rink one, skippered by Geoffrey Bald, featuring Danny Schmidt, Heath Miller and Ken McLelland, won 27-23. Goroke/Edenhope's rink was skippered by Geoff Lowe and featured Travis Crawford, Trevor Prior and Barry Crick.
Golf's second rink, skippered by Ashley Batchelor and featuring Bradley Robinson, Stephen Harris, and Chris Mellor, had a comfortable 35-20 win. Wayne Caldow skippered Goroke/Edenhope's rink, which featured Richard Smith, John Burchell, and Gerry McDonnell.
The rink that Goroke/Edenhope won was skippered by Philip Robinson and featured Bruce Ackland, Frederick Lowe and John Moloney. They won 26-12 over the rink skippered by Gavin Walter, featuring Graeme O'Connor, Graeme Deleeuw and Hayden Tucker.
Horsham City also won two rinks to one against Nhill at Horsham City Bowling Club.
The first rink, skippered by Daniel Gloury and featuring Bruce Campbell, Kevin Gepp, and Derek Ballinger, defeated Nhill's rink, skippered by Allan King and featuring Ivan Reichelt, Barry Cramer, and Daryl Leyonhjelm, 28-23.
The second rink won 28-20. Anthony King skippered it and its players were Ron Dolby, Geoffrey Inglis, and William Hogan. Darren Gebert skippered Nhill's rink, which featured Greg Ryan, Terry Robins, and Ryder Byrnes.
Nhill's rink three, skippered by Kevin Jones and featuring Brad Blackwood, Barry Morrison, and Roger Brown, won a thriller, 22-18. Horsham City's rink, featuring Colin Morrell, Govan Bellinger, and Graham McDonald, was skippered by Kevin Clyne.
At Dimboola Bowling Club, Sunnyside secured their first win of the season, 72-62. Sunnyside won two of the three rinks.
Rink one, skippered by John Ackland and featuring Dale McRae, Barry McIntyre, and Ron Tollbring, won 24-17. Dimboola's rink, featuring Shirley Thomas, Peter Harradine, and Wayne Albrecht, was skippered by Robert Pyers.
Rink three, skippered by Rex Bergen, featuring Brendan Lloyd, Roger Macinnes and Ronald Magor, won 28-17 over Dimboola's rink featuring Mervyn Roberts, Alan Krahe, Darryl Both, skippered by Peter O'Loughlin.
Dimboola's rink two, skippered by Greg Cook and featuring Judith Albrecht, Donald Haines, and William Eldridge, won 28-20. Sunnyside's rink, skippered by Stuart Cowan, featured Chris Trotter, Gavin Watson, and Rod Skurrie.
On Sunday, Coughlin Park defeated Kaniva 83 to 63. Coughlin Park's rink one, skippered by Anthony Woodhead and featuring Craig Decker, Rowan Hawkins and Terry Satori, defeated Kaniva's rink one, skippered by Darren Maddern, featuring Paul Pearson, Adrian Coad and Steve Duthie, 33-19.
Kaniva's rink two had a thrilling 28-26 win. Jeffrey Meyer skippered the rink, which featured Janet Kuchel, Colin Maddern, and Vince Aloi. Coughlin Park's rink featured Robert Mewburn, Paul O'Shannessy, and Charles Officer, and it was skipped by Michael Ellis.
The third rink, Coughlin Park, won 24-16. It was skippered by Greg Sleep and featured Allan Thompson, Kevin Cramer and Mervyn Dean. Bruce Dodson skippered the opposing rink and it featured Russell Crouch, Tyler Cooper and Maree Van Kempen.
In division two, Nhill defeated Horsham City 86-49 at Horsham City Bowling Club, Coughlin Park defeated Natimuk 99-40 at Coughlin Park Bowls Club, and Sunnyside defeated Dimboola 90-49 at Dimboola Bowling Club.
The thrilling match, however, was between Goroke/Edenhope and Horsham Golf, which finished in a 71-71 draw at Goroke.
Goroke/Edenhope's rink one won 29-20. It was skippered by Christine Osborn and featured David Ross, Marian McDonnell and Craig Smith. Horsham Golf's rink was skippered by Denis Ballinger, and featured. Raymond Gilmartin, Trevor Ough and Craig Turvey.
Horsham Golf's rink three won 27-17. Trevor Wood skippered it, which featured Esma Wood, Russell Smith, and Robert Grieger. Terry Exell skippered Goroke/Edenhope's rink, which featured Matthew Anderson, Michelle Smith, and Andrew Woolsey.
The thrilling rink, however, was the second one, in which Goroke/Edenhope won 25-24. Roger Osborn skippered their rink, which featured Colin Brown, Barney Mulraney, and Alan O'Bryan. Horsham Golf's rink featured Adam Galpin, Marty Montgomery, and Darryl Phillips and was skippered by Dennis Pye.
Nhill and Coughlin Park remain the unbeaten teams after round two.
In division three, at Nhill Bowling Club, the home side defeated Sunnyside 80-43, and at Horsham Golf Bowls Club, the home side defeated Nhill 96-37. Coughlin Park's two teams squared off, and the number 3 team won 73-48. On Sunday, Kaniva defeated Sunnyside 66-54.
Midweek Pennant kicks off.
On Monday, October 7, the midweek pennant kicked off with a thriller between Kaniva and Coughlin Park, the highlight. The match was played at Coughlin Park Bowls Club, and Kaniva prevailed 74-72.
Coughlin Park's rink one, skippered by Michael Ellis and featuring Veronica Muller, Faye Anderson, and Beverly Phillips, won 32-21 over Kaniva's rink, skippered by Maree Van Kempen and featuring Paul Pearson, Wilma Kidman, and Ian Austin.
Coughlin Park's rink two, skippered by Shirley Schorback and featuring Nola Wade, Jan Keating, and Allan Thompson, won 24-21 over Kaniva's rink, skippered by Janet Kuchel and featuring Lorraine Coad, Tyler Cooper, and Bruce Meyer.
Kaniva's rink three won 32-16. Dianne Maddern skippered the rink, which featured Robyn Capper, Adrian Coad, and Steve Duthie. Judy Bryan skippered Coughlin Park's rink, which featured Wendy Sleep, Glenda Hyett, and Pamela Weir.
In the other matches, Horsham City defeated Dimboola 88-51, and Sunnyside defeated Nhill 96-58.
In division two, Horsham City defeated Goroke/Edenhope 61-32, Serviceton defeated Coughlin Park 54-37, Sunnyside defeated Natimuk 54-50, and Dimboola defeated Coughlin Park 50-43.
